Lallemand Animal Nutrition, Australia’s leading supplier of probiotics, silage inoculants and sealing systems used in the fodder and livestock industries, has acquired the distribution rights for the smaXtec cow monitoring system.
The technology, which provides highly accurate, real-time data about cow health and fertility is already used in dairy herds throughout Australia.
Its former distributor, Mike Ryan of Eagle Direct, will continue to work with Lallemand to support new and existing customers.
Lallemand Animal Nutrition Managing Director, Alex Turney, says smaXtec saves time, money and workload by monitoring body temperature, activity, water intake and even rumen pH around the clock.
"This system ensures your cows are monitored at all times," says Alex.
This information can then be used to accurately predict a range of parameters, including heat, calving and metabolic challenges.
The smaXtec System consists of 100 mm rumen bolus, which measures the cow’s temperature and activity.
Administered orally, the maintenance-free device is retained in the rumen due to its own weight.
“There is no risk of external neck or foot collars being lost, ensuring full traceability and comparability. All data is clearly assigned to a specific animal and saved.”
The dashboard, which can be readily accessible by smartphone, tablet or office computer, provides a clear and precise overview of the health and performance of your herd.
Automatic alerts and recommended actions can also be directed to your chosen messenger service.
“This amazing technology allows you to detect metabolic challenge caused by variations in feed intake or quality so you can take measures to protect the health of your cows,” he says.
“This is a robust, ‘plug-and-play’ system that is extremely easy to set up and use,” Alex says.
“It’s important to note that this system can grow as your herd size increases."
