WHITE PAPER

Enhancing the feed utilization of laying hens with probiotics

Main image

The digestive microbiota plays a central role in digestion and gut health. It is estimated that, in poultry, 5 to 30% of the total energy requirement is provided by the microbiota.

Discover in this 6-page white paper how a probiotic bacteria can help laying hens extract more energy from the feed.

Energy is a major driver of feed costs in poultry production. Energy metabolism is influenced by many factors. The digestive microbiota plays a central role in digestion and gut health. It is estimated that, in poultry, between 5 to 30% of the total energy requirement is provided by the microbiota. Among probiotic solutions, the lactic acid producing bacteria Pediococcus acidilactici CNCM I-4622 (MA 18/5M) is proven to help balance the gut microbiota through four, well-described mechanisms. Recent findings indicate how P. acidilactici CNCM I-4622 enhances feed efficiency and energy utilization.

Thanks to this probiotic bacteria, laying hens extract more energy from the feed which is used to increase laying rates and/or feed efficiency. P. acidilactici CNCM I-4622 represents an additional tool to manage ration costs for poultry production.
