1st International Acidosis and Rumen Health Satellite

1st International Acidosis and Rumen Health Satellite

The first International Acidosis and Rumen Health Satellite Conference attracted over 400 ruminant and nutrition experts

The first international conference dedicated to Acidosis and Rumen Health was co-hosted by Lallemand in partnership with the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) in Clermont-Ferrand, September 6th. This conference, organized within the 10th edition of the International Symposium on the Nutrition of Herbivores (ISNH) gathered over 430 participants, both ruminant experts invited by Lallemand and scientists who attended the International Conference. In addition, around 100 attendees could follow the conference on-line through live-streaming.

If acidosis is recognized by nutritionists and farmers as one of the main metabolic disorders with many consequences on dairy cow and beef cattle health and performance and huge economic impact, it is still poorly understood. The international conference which gathered experts from Europe, Canada and Australia had for objective to put the pieces of the puzzle together and to look at the Multi-dimension of acidosis and rumen health, a key challenge in the context of livestock precision farming. It offered a good mix between scientific data and field related observations on animal behavior and welfare. It clearly showed that acidosis is a multi-factorial trouble which originates in the rumen but which has many consequences on the total gastrointestinal tract homeostasis, on host physiology and behavior. The conference closed on a round table discussion animated by Prof Giulio COZZI, from University of Padova, Italy.

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has been working on rumen microbial ecology, with the aim to promote rumen health, for over 20 years in close collaboration with INRA and other internationally recognized research institutes or universities, with over 100 scientific publications on the topic. The meeting shows us that we still have a lot to learn!

More information about the content of the conference as well as video recordings will be diffused soon. To be informed about the release of the videos connect to: https://ruminantdigestivesystem.com/isnh-live-streaming/
