Positive biofilm for safe animal production: LALFILM PRO
Not all products are available in all markets nor associated claims in all regions.
Product details
It can be used with all animal species, such as pig, poultry, or ruminant.
LALFILM PRO can be used in organic production under regulation (EC) No 2018/848.
How it works
After building surfaces are disinfected, they can be colonized by remaining bacteria or opportunistic bacteria from the animals or environment.
LALFILM PRO offers a solution to install a positive biofilm before recolonization by undesirable bacteria.
Why it matters
A biofilm is a structured community of microorganisms attached to a surface and enclosed in a self-produced polymer matrix (adapted from Costerton et al., 1999).
It can be formed by beneficial or undesirable bacteria.
Did you know?
It is estimated that 90% of the world’s microbial biomass is in biofilm form.
Bacteria in a biofilm form are 10 to 1,000 times more resistant to antimicrobials (disinfectants, antibiotics) compared to isolated bacteria (Briandet et al., 2012). Therefore, biofilms of pathogenic bacteria are increasingly difficult to control.
Uncontrolled farm building biofilms = increased risk of contamination of the animals by undesirable bacteria.
Applications
LALFILM PRO is a water-dispersible powder for dilution and is applied using a low-pressure spraying device.
The first application of LALFILM PRO should be made after the surfaces have been disinfected, dried, and before animals re-enter the housing structure. Additional applications are possible when animals are present if conditions allow.
Shelf life
LALFILM PRO can be kept for 24 months from the date of production when kept in its original unopened packaging and in a cool, dry place.
