LEVUCELL SC gains PCAS approval in Australia

Oct 30, 2017

Lallemand Animal Nutrition is paving the way to be the first feed ingredient company to have its products approved by the Pasturefed Cattle Assurance Scheme (PCAS).

The inclusion of Lallemand’s LEVUCELL SC on the PCAS Approved Supplements list gives producers the ease of maximising performance on grass without risking conformance with the PCAS standard.

This development is really exciting for Lallemand Animal Nutrition, for feed manufacturers, for beef producers and for PCAS,” says Alex Turney, Lallemand Animal Nutrition, Country Manager.

Having access to a research proven, quality probiotic like LEVUCELL SC will allow producers to drive animal performance naturally from enhancing rumen function, increasing fibre digestibility and ultimately improve beef production.”

Consumers have been clear with the market; they want no antibiotics, no ionophores, no added hormones,” Alex said. “They want their beef free range, pasture fed, so this is a real win for beef producers and the consumer knowing they can have cattle fed a Live Rumen Specific Probiotic to enhance beef production and productivity naturally.

LEVUCELL SC is a specifically selected strain of yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077 that works to enhance the overall performance of the rumen and has been shown in numerous published articles to be an economically viable option to ionophores, hormones and antibiotics.

For feed manufacturers already approved by PCAS, the inclusion of LEVUCELL SC allows them to include a natural probiotic solution to assist in driving rumen function,” Alex added. “It will provide peace of mind that they can offer their clients a rumen modifying feed ingredient that meets PCAS requirements.

PCAS provides consumers and producers with a solid set of standards that ensure the integrity of the pasture fed label. Under the PCAS standard, antibiotics are defined to include; low-level (sub-therapeutic) or therapeutic level doses; sulphonamides, ionophores or coccidiostats, ruling out many commonly used products to enhance feed efficiency and economic benefit on grazing systems.

Until now there was no substitute, LEVUCELL SC provides a breakthrough in rumen health and beef production,” Alex concluded.
