Lallemand Animal Nutrition Presents at Technical Dairy Seminar
Oct 21, 2014
In August, one of the Lallemand Animal Nutrition Technical Services Dairy experts, Tony Hall, delivered an informational presentation to members of the dairy industry at the annual Empire Farm Days show in Seneca Falls, NY.
Empire Farm Days is hosted annually by Rodman Lott & Sons, a well-recognized farm with state-of-the-art facilities. The event showcases the latest developments in technology, equipment and best farm practices across all agricultural fields and is attended by the public, farmers and industry professionals. Hall’s presentation was part of a symposium focusing on “Finding the next 10 lbs of milk”.
Hall’s presentation, entitled “How to avoid losing a dollar per cow every day”, and focused on a problematic issue for dairy farmers called sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA). SARA is the time spent below a rumen pH of 5.8 in ruminants. Peer-reviewed research has confirmed that SARA is a risk for dairy cows after every meal, due to the vigorous fermentations which occurs in their rumens. These changes in the rumen microbiota and potential damage to the rumen wall can ultimately result in losses in milk production and feed efficiency. Lallemand’s active dry yeast product, Levucell® SC (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077), is the only naturally occurring, rumen specific active dry yeast that has been selected to help optimize rumen function.
The seminar was recorded on video and then uploaded on Youtube by Holstein World, one of Dairy Business’ sub-publications. It can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAMLPOftYNE.
