Colostrum plays an essential role in piglet survival and growth. 

Neonatal piglets rely on colostrum to provide antibodies (IgG, IgA, IgM) as unlike humans they don’t obtain any via the placenta. 

Colostrum (IgG) is directly responsible for providing immunity to piglets and varies between sows and herds.
