Beef Industry Food Safety Council (BIFSCo) has acknowledged probiotics as a pre-harvest Production Best Practice (PBP) to reduce the prevalence of E. coli O157:H7. Lactobacillus acidophilus BT-1386 is noted as PBP probiotic based on peer-reviewed research showing it can reduce E. coli O157:H7 when fed at 1 x 109 colony-forming units (CFU), or 0.05 grams, per head per day.1

In commercial feedyard rations, the addition of L. acidophilus BT-1386 has helped improve beef cattle performance and profitability.2,3 Independent cattle feeding data has shown L. acidophilus BT-1386 fed cattle had a reduction in E. coli O157:H7 shedding and re-infection of Salmonella when compared to control cattle.4
